Enhanced Navigation
Resco Explorer implements enhanced navigation for easier moving and selecting inside the list view.
- Key shortcut "Quick Navigation (by default assigned to "#") activates the "Quick Search" mode allowing you to find the item (file) in the list view.
Type the name fragment and the highlight will move to the first item starting with this text. Use Up/Down keys (or joystick)
for moving to the previous/next occurence. The action button closes the Quick Serch mode.
- Key shortcut "Multi-selection Mode" (by default assigned to "*") selects the highlighted item. It is now possible to select more items and perform any
operation with them.
- Users having QWERTY keyboard can use "Q" for activating Quick Search and "Space" for multi-selection.
- It is possible to map the other keys for certain actions in the Options (see Keyboard Shortcut).

File Encryption
Resco Explorer uses the Microsoft Enhanced Cryptographic Provider as a default provider for crypting and decrypting files. Devices based on Windows Mobile for SmartPhone platform contain it as a default equipment and it does not need to be installed.
Commonly, the following algorithms are installed on your SmartPhone: RC2-128bits, DES-56bits, 3DES TWO KEY-112bits, 3DES-168bits.
Windows Mobile-based SmartPhone contains also RC5 and AES algorithms. It is not
recommended to use these algorithms since they may be not supported on the desktop
computer and the files encrypted with this algorithm may be not decryptable on
the desktop.
How to encrypt files
- select the file (or files) you want encrypt
- display the "Action" menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Encryption>Encrypt.
- if you wish to set another the cryptographic provider or encryption algorithm
choose Menu>Options
- type and confirm the password and press [Encrypt]
How to decrypt files
- select encrypted files you want to decrypt
- display the "Action" menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Encryption>Decrypt
- type the password and press [Decrypt]
About desktop PC support
In addition to the main Resco Explorer component the installation
offers installation of Desktop Shell Extensions. It allows you to
encrypt/decrypt files by using Microsoft File Explorer directly on your desktop
PCs as well as sending the files from the desktop computer to you SmartPhone
device connected via ActiveSync.Desktop Shell Extensions require Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista.

File Operations
ZIP Compression
Compression can be used to increase the storage space of any storage device by
moving files to the ZIP archive. An algorithm used for zipping the files is PC compatible, so you can extract
the archives created on a desktop PC and vice-versa.
How to compress files
- select the files you want to compress
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Compress.
- enter the archive name
- specify the compression mode and level
- choose the Menu>Browse Folder if you need to change the destination folder
- choose the Menu>Set Password if you need to protect your archive
with a password. The password will be asked each time when trying to extract the
files from the archive
- press Compress
How to extract files
- select the archive (ZIP file or RAR file) you want to extract
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Archive>Extract to.
- specify the overwrite mode
- choose the Menu>Browse Folder if you need to change the destination folder
- press [Extract]
How to add or move files to an existing ZIP archive
- select the files you want to add
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Edit>Copy or Edit>Cut
- go to the destination ZIP archive or its subfolder
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Edit>Paste.
- it is not possible to move the files into RAR archive. Resco Explorer implements only the extraction from RAR archives.
How to verify the archive integrity
Select the archive and display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key. Choose Archive>Verify Archive.

How to Copy, Move and Create shortcut
- select the source files or folders
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Edit>Copy or Edit>Cut
- go to the destination folder
- display the Action menu and choose Edit>Paste
How to Create a Shortcut
- select the source file or folder
- display the Action menu by pressing the left soft key and choose Edit>Copy
- go to the destination folder
- display the Action menu again and choose Edit>Paste shortcut
Alternatively you can make a shortcut using SendTo action.
How to delete a file or folder
Select the file or folder and choose Action>Delete.
How to rename a file or folder
Select the desired file/folder and choose Action>Rename. Type the new name and press [Done].
How to create a new folder
Locate the folder in which you wish to create a new folder. Choose Menu>New Folder. Type the desired name and press [Done].

Searching Files
How to search for desired file
- select Menu>Find
- enter the file name (you can use wildcards *;?)
- choose Menu>Browse Folder if you wish to change the folder where the searching should start
- if you wish to find the text in files check the box Find Text
and specify the text which has to be contained in the resulting files.
Optionally you can choose to search the whole words only or case sensitive
searching.
- press [Find]
Choosing Find in the Find Files window opens a new widow containing the
list of files matching the searching criteria. If the searching takes too much
time you can stop it pressing the [Stop] button.
How to work with the search results
- Press the Action button to navigate to the folder containing selected
file.
- choose Menu>Feed To Listbox to fill the list view with the files
from Search Results. After adding them to the list view you can use all available operations
on them, including copying, moving, deleting, etc.

Open or View File
The build-in viewer can be used to view:
- files having text, binary or hexadecimal format
- HTML documents
- JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG graphics formats
- encrypted RXF files (decryption in memory)
The Viewer also implements a very comfortable text search function.
How to open file
- choose a file and press the Action button to open it using the associated application
- choose the file you want to open and select Action>Open with to open the file using a desired application
How to view the file contents
- choose the file with the contents of which you wish to view
- select Action>View to view the file using the build-in viewer

Add/Delete Favorites
Favorites are folders which you can easily open by choosing Menu>Favorites.
Adding/Deleting favorites
- choose Menu>Favorites
- select Add/Delete menu item
- the dialog that opens will show the list of your favorite folders
- press [New]
- browse a new folder which you wish to add to your favorites
- you can change its name for better orientation
- press [Done] and the folder will appear in the list
- you can edit folder's name or location by choosing it in the list and pressing the Action button
- you can change the folder order by choosing Menu>Move Up and Menu>Move Down
- you can delete any selected folder choosing Menu>Delete
How to use the Favorites
- use the keyboard shortcut "Favorites" (by default assigned to "1") to display the favorites list.
- choosing the desired folder and pressing the [Go To] button will
navigate you to the selected folder
- alternatively you can open Menu>Favorites and select the folder
from the popup menu

Add/Delete SendTo Folders
SendTo folders is an effective tool for quick copying files, moving or creating
shortcut in the folders you prefer.
How to Add/Delete SendTo favorites
- press Menu>SendTo
- choose Add/Delete menu item to show the list of your SendTo folders
- press [New]
- browse a new folder which you wish to add to your SendTo folders
- you can change its name for better orientation
- check Send as shortcut if the folder should contain shortcuts only
- press [Done] and the folder will appear in the list
- you can edit folder's name or location by choosing it in the list and pressing the Action button
- you can change the folder order by choosing Menu>Move Up and Menu>Move Down
- you can delete any selected folder choosing Menu>Delete
How to use the SendTo folders
- use the keyboard shortcut "Send To" (by default not assigned) to display the Send To menu.
- choosing the desired folder will send selected files to the predefined target.
- alternatively you can open Menu>Send To and select the folder from the popup menu

Startup Folder
Check "Last opened folder" if you want to start the application with the last opened folder. Otherwise it will open "Specific folder" which can be defined by chosing [Menu>Browse Folder]"
Other Options
"Open Folder Shortcut with Resco Explorer" defines the way how the shortcut to folders are created. If it is checked, the shortcut will always open the folder in Resco Explorer. Otherwise, it will open the program associated with folders.

Appearance Options
Striped list
highlights even lines to make the list-view more readable.
Use vertical splitter
defines the way how the tree-view and list-view are placed on the window if they are both shown. Check this option to split them vertically (it is better for landscape devices).
Font Options
Choose the font size and check the Bold font to force text to displayed in bold or Clear Type to use the font with smooth edges (only on WM 2003 and newer devices).

Browser Options
We recommend you to check the options "Hide system files..." and "Hide hidden files" if you do not need to access system or hidden files. This option accelerates your work with Explorer, especially if you need to access folders with large amount of files.
If you wish to hide also the files located in ROM choose the next box "Hide files in ROM"
The file extensions are hidden by default. If you wish to see them in the list uncheck the box "Hide file extensions".
If you wish to exclude the folders from the list and leave them only in the upper tree view check the box "Hide folders".

Get confirmation before
You can specify whether the application shall prompt you to confirm actions such as delete or overwrite before actually performing them.
Send To will move files instead of copying
changes the behavior of the Send To favorites. It will cause the files being moved instead of copying.

Viewer Options
File Viewer
Application uses the build-in viewer to view files. You can specify and use an external viewer. To do this, check the "Use external viewer" option and specify the respective path choosing Menu>Browse Viewer.
Choose [Use Action Button to view file...] option if you wish to view the files by pressing the action button rather than opening them.

Keyboard Shortcuts
Keyboard Shortcuts section manages the keyboard customization. It is possible to map several actions to the numeric keys (or letter keys on QWERTY device).
This window contains the list of common actions available from within the Resco Explorer window (such as Copy, Cut, Delete,...). You can assign a key which should activate the action.

Add-Ins options contains a list of supported Resco Explorer plug-ins. Check the
box before the plug-in name to activate the plug-in.
Uncheck the "Use Internal ZIP Compression" option if you prefer to use an external archive tool rather than the built-in one.

Association Options
Specify the file types which have to be associated with Resco Explorer.
Check the box "Associate RXF files" if you wish to open the
encrypted files (with RXF extensions) with Resco Explorer. Check the box
"Associate ZIP files"/"Associate RAR files" if you wish to open the the ZIP/RAR archives with Resco
Explorer. If you have the Registry plug-in installed you can also choose to
associate the registry scripts (the REG extension).

ZIP Options
Compression Level
defines the default compression level to be used for actions associated with "Cut"and "Copy" actions.
Verify integrity after modification
activate if you want to test the archive after compression. This will slow the compression down.
Overwrite Mode
determines the overwrite mode during extraction. This option is intended only for expert users.
Use folder names
activate if you wish to preserve the file path during extraction. If unchecked, all files will be extracted to the same folder.
Use Ansi code page
activate if the Ansi code page should be used instead of OEM code page for translating the file names being read from the ZIP archives.

- choose Menu>Options>Registration
- the [Owner Name] field shows the name from your Owner Information;
check if it matches the name you received from our registration center
- enter the code you received from our registration center into the [Code] field
- press [Done]

Please try to repeat the registration, but:
- use the exact [Owner name]. Field is case sensitive. You can change it in
the SmartPhone's Settings>Owner Information
- don't use any extra spaces inside the name
