What personal information do we collect on the Site and why?

Contact Information

We also collect information You specifically provide when requesting an alert to be delivered to You which information may reveal specific aspects of Your preferences. In general, we may use this information to respond to Your inquiry, request Your participation in a survey, contact You about products or partner offerings that may be of interest to You and share or otherwise disclose such information as part of Your profile.
Profiles
The Alerts.com service is 100% opt-in and consists of user requested content.
Alerts.com collects a wide variety of information which is used to execute the delivery of the services You are signing for. The information You provide is used to match your requests to our services. Alerts.com will never send You information or content that you have not requested.
Your information and profile is made accessible to our ad serving engine and other various Alerts.com or third party engines to ensure we can fulfill your requests. All information is held confidential and can be deleted or modified by the user at anytime. No information collected is shared with other users of Alerts.com. Subscribers to Alerts.com having elected to opt-out of the ad based model should such a service be made available will have their information hidden from the ad serving engine. By using Alerts.com services, You agree to allow us to use the information from You, as described, throughout the Alerts.com network.
IP Addresses
Each visitor to the Site is identified by an IP address during their visit and IP addresses are automatically captured by the Site management software. Alerts.com uses this information to help improve the operation of the Site and may at some time use this information to help adjust the content of the Site to the general geographic location of the visitor and for reporting purposes.
Cookies
Alerts.com uses small files called ???cookies??? to improve the quality of a visitor???s or user???s interaction with the Site, to recognize You and Your access privileges on our Site, to enable a shopping cart feature, and facilitate other advanced features. Bulletin Boards/Chat Rooms
If you use a bulletin board or chat room on the Site, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information You submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. Alerts.com is not responsible for the personally identifiable information You choose to submit in these forums.
Information Supplied by You at Registration
During registration, You are required to provide contact information. To process your registration and/or product purchases, we may require your name, billing address, phone number, email address, shipping address and credit card information. Information gathered during these processes is used to process your order as otherwise described herein. Alerts.com may use this contact information to confirm your identity.
If you have started, but not completed, the registration process, we may also send you email messages requesting that you complete the registration process to start benefiting from the Alerts.com services. All of the email messages we send you may contain code that enables our database to track your usage of the emails, including whether the email was opened and/or what links (if any) were clicked. If you would rather not receive emails about new products, promotions or other noteworthy news, please see the section below labeled ???Marketing and Opt-Out???.
Demographic and profile data is also collected at our Site. We use this data to tailor our visitor???s experience at our Site, showing them content that we think they might be interested in, and displaying the content according to their preferences. Some of this information (i.e., customer demographic information) may be shared with advertisers on an aggregate or anonymous basis.
When becoming an Alerts.com member or subscriber, advertisements, promotions and offers from third-party advertisers may be provided to You. If You choose to accept any such offers, Alerts.com will provide Your information to the advertiser by pre-populating the necessary registration forms or information requested by the advertiser which may include Your billing information. Your information will not be transferred until you actually accept the offer. You may decline the offer at any time up until this point. Please refer to the third-party advertisers own privacy policy (provided on the offer pages) if you have any questions regarding how Your information is used.
Information sharing or disclosure practices.
Alerts.com may share any of Your information to third parties with other business partners for marketing and other business purposes unless you choose not to have Your information shared with other businesses for these purposes, at any time, by checking the appropriate opt-out box in Your member profile. The personal information You provide to the Site may be accessed by (a) third parties who help Alerts.com operate the Site, help Alerts.com process transactions, provide the services requested by You, or contribute to Alerts.com sales and marketing efforts; and (b) law enforcement and other government entities if reasonably required.
We may also occasionally share aggregated information about you and our other visitors with third parties. This information does not contain any personal information and is used to develop featured programs, content, and services that we hope will be of interest to you and our other members and users.

Marketing and Opt-Out
You may opt-out of receiving marketing communications from Alerts.com by sending an email to opt-out@alerts.com. Note that each email, marketing communication or other means of communications from Alerts.com to You includes instructions on how to unsubscribe. You also have the capability to opting-out of each individual alert or delete each individual alert one at a time. You may also elect to turn-off each alert one at a time or all alerts at once. Turning-off versus deleting and/or opting-out has its nuances worth understanding.
When you opt-out of Alerts.com we permanently remove all your information from our system. Should you wish to reactivate your account with Alerts.com you would have to start all over again.
When you elect to turn-off an alert of all alerts, we suspend all distribution of the alerts you signed up for. Should you require to re-active a specific alert then all the configuration information has been kept to ease the re-installment process.
When you elect to delete an alert we permanently remove the specific information pertaining to that alert from our system.
Security
Alerts.com follows generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect Your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Business Transitions
In the event Alerts.com goes through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, Your personally identifiable information will likely be among the assets transferred. You will be notified via a prominent notice on our Site for 30 days of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information |
